About the Festival ...

Dave the Owl

Leeds Beer, Cider and Perry Festival is the biggest annual celebration of traditional beers, ciders and perries held in Leeds, and is one of the biggest such events held in the north of England. It brings together over 150 real ales, a selection of real ciders and perries that is second to none, and a fantastic selection of bottled beers from all over the world.

In 2007, nearly 3000 people attended the festival, and were able to choose from over 160 real ales, twenty ciders, four perries and around 70 different beers on the global bar. The 2008 festival promises to be just as good!

Organising ...

The process of organising the festival starts in August the previous year. It is organised by an unpaid committee of volunteers, backed up by the members of Leeds CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale.

This small band have to book the venue, order the supplies, round up the equipment, recruit the unpaid volunteer staff, and much more. They must be mad.

Help from Leeds CAMRA members in organising the festival is always welcome.

CAMRA ...

CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale CAMRA campaigns for real ale, real pubs and consumer rights. We are an independent, voluntary organisation with over 83,000 members and have been described as the most successful consumer group in Europe. CAMRA promotes good-quality real ale and pubs, as well as acting as the consumer's champion in relation to the UK and European beer and drinks industry. We aim to:

  1. Protect and improve consumer rights.
  2. Promote quality, choice and value for money.
  3. Support the public house as a focus of community life.
  4. Campaign for greater appreciation of traditional beers, ciders and perries as part of our national heritage and culture.
  5. Seek improvements in all licensed premises and throughout the brewing industry.

Why not join us today if you care about great quality real ale and pubs?
